I went shopping when I was in Astoira last week…

… at my favorite vintage jewelry store Jonathon’s, where Charlie, the owner, always takes fabulous care of me.  He introduces us ASS girls to his employees as “the girls who run the Astoria restaurant circut” which is always followed by: “they get the family discount.”

There, I found the fantastic Goldstone cocktail ring and pearl earrings pictured above.  I have been wearing my mom’s pearl earrings everyday for the past couple of years and finally splurged for a pair of my own.

I simply told Charlie that I wanted “big pearl earrings” and he smiled and told me he had a pair he knew I would love.

Not that it is extremely far off from my normal jewelry habits, because let’s face it, at least half off everything I wear comes from Charlie, but for my next Green Greenie pledge, my friends, I am going to only buy vintage (resale) and hand made (from local artists and etsy dealers) jewelry from here on out.

And on a complete side note, I am going to make a conscious effort to get back into my own jewelry making again.  Just for fun.

If any of you lovely readers find yourselves in Astoria, make sure to go into Jonathon’s on 12th street and tell him Emily sent you.  You will not be disappointed!

Let’s play a game.

It’s called let’s see who can save more people from annoying, unwanted, and completely unnecessary phone book deliveries!

Visit to get started.

Step one in the recovery from my magazine addiction.

Step two is giving up magazines altogether.

Step two has two phases:

Phase one is letting all my subscriptions run out without renewing.

Phase two is resisting every urge to purchase whatever latest gossip magazine
beckons me from the checkout stand.

I’m up for the challenge. ;)

My diffuser (which I loved) has gone and dried itself up in the last month or so.  My house went from the slightly over pungent scent of lemongrass to the undeniable stench of rotten veggies (waiting for the composter to arrive) wafting in from the back stoop.  It is more than bordering on gross.

So, as I was reuniting with the beloved streets of Ashland today, I happened upon one of my old favorite shops (which has been known to supply a treasure or two chez moi) and discovered the wonderful world of Dani.  All natural, and local (Bend, OR).  What more can you ask for?

So, (which is apparently my new segue tool) in my attempt to greenify all my products as they run out, I have switched to a greener, local diffuser and body lotion… in passion-fruit ;)

Ashland is treating me very very well so far…

Check out Gertrude for the intimate details of this little lady’s vaycay.

… I made it to Ashland safe and sound today.  It was a journey that almost didn’t happen, but thanks to a pep talk from Jen and my want to not waste my concert tickets (which I ended up bagging anyway) my reunion with my favorite city in the world has begun.

Though this trip will require me to use more than a single tank of gas this month, I am determined to go as green as possible while enjoying my vaycay.

My first Southern Oregon green change was actually inspired (and followed though with) by Sam, a friend from high school and the husband to and soon to be father with my beautiful friend Maggie.

My high tech laptop (one of my most treasured possessions) has changed its shade of choice from pink to green by going low power.

Did you know that with Vista, there is a function under the power monitor that gives you the option to go into power saver mode?  That’s right friends, with a bit of dimming of the screen and a slightly slower running time, my life line to Cyber NeverNeverLand can run a little greener.
