I lived in Belgium when I was a teenager. It quickly became known to all as the “Land of Chocolate and Beer.” There, I learned to appreciate the wonder that is that hoppy-carbonated beverage that is so widely loved. In my book, the darker the better. I stand firm with my “friends don’t let friends drink clear beer” opinion on the subject. If it fades off your tongue, it isn’t worth your time.
I have the same stance when it comes to wine, but that comes more from my wine tasting experience in the Barrossa Valley in So Oz. In either case, I like to feel like my taste bids are celebrating Mardis Gras.
Luckily for me, I live in Oregon, where the micro-breweries are plentiful and the wineries are spread throughout.
So in my attempt to greenify my summer nights as I sip bevies with friends, I am keeping it local and sticking to Oregon brews and vinos.
My current fave is Green Lakes Organic Ale by the Deschutes Brewery in Bend, OR.
